Product Fitment Handbook
Getting the right fit is one of the most important parts of keeping your Lazy Legend comfortable, safe, and adventure-ready 🐾
This guide will walk you through how to correctly fit and adjust your harnesses and clothing, along with examples of what a good fit should (and shouldn’t) look like. Because every dachshund is built a little differently, small adjustments can make a big difference to comfort, movement, and overall fit.
If you’re ever unsure, our team is always happy to help with fit checks and adjustment advice.
How to fit our Sized Products
Harnesses, Collars, and Clothing
- For harnesses, just any straps/adjustment points out as far as they can go (largest adjustments) then tighten when on your pup so that you can fit no more or less than two fingers between in any gaps. The neoprene plate is for the chest area and undercarriage, the straps are for the back.
- For collars, adjust the collar out, test out on your pup, then remove and adjust in/out as needed before putting back on your pup. Collars can be dangerous if they are too loose, ensure they are 2-3 fingers width so they cant get snagged on something.
- For Clothing, when you place these on your pup, they should be firm enough to not be able to escape, but still comfortable and not restrictive.
Tips for Pups new to Harnesses and Clothing
- Wearing an item for the first time can be a stressful experience for some pups. Be sure to stage out getting them use to their new gear, never force it.
- If your pup is showing signs of stress, stop. You dont want to associate wearing items as a stressful experience.
- To start, let them smell the item first, get them used to it being in their space. Then slowly bring the item closer, put their paws on it, let them get used to the material, feel etc. Stop any sign of distress.
- For harnesses and over-head clothing, hold a small treat in one hand and put that through the head hole of the item to entice them through so you can slip it over their head.
- Use treats to reward any positive behaviour during the process.
Fitment Check ✅
Harnesses
Good Fitment
✅ Strap sits 2–3cm behind front legs
✅ Flat chest plate
✅ Two-finger rule
✅ No rubbing under arms
✅ Comfortable shoulder movement
Bad Fitment
❌ Tight behind legs
❌ Gaping chest
❌ Twisting sideways
❌ Restricting movement
❌ Riding into armpits
❌ This harness is on up-side down - the neoprene plate needs to be against the chest with the strap side across their back.
Clothing Check
- It should be firm enough that it doesnt drag or bunch up around their legs
- Too loose - they could accidently get a leg out and trip; Too tight - can cut off circulation or cause rubbing and discomfort
- They need to be able to their usual movements in their outfit without restricting movement
- DO NOT leave your pup unsupervised with clothing on, this includes bed time/naps.
- Clothing will naturally stretch over time, ensure you wash them regularly for them to bounce back into their original shape.
