Why it matters
Every dachshund hooman knows they’re built a little differently — long body, short legs, big personality.
That means a “one-size-fits-most” harness from the pet shop often sits too high, rubs under the arms, or twists sideways. A proper fit isn’t just about looking adorable; it’s about comfort and spinal safety.
What you’ll need
-
A soft measuring tape
-
Your Doxie standing naturally (treats help!)
-
Somewhere to jot the numbers
Step-by-step
-
Neck: Measure around the base of the neck where a collar would sit — not up by the jaw.
-
Chest: Wrap the tape around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.
-
Length: From the base of the neck to just before the tail. This tells you how much extra chest length you’ll need — something our harnesses are famous for.
-
Compare to our size chart. If your pup’s between sizes, go up a size for growing room or a layered look.
Lazy Legend Tip
Slip two fingers between the harness and your dog’s fur — that’s the sweet spot for comfort and control.
Why Lazy Doxie Co fits best
