Understanding IVDD and Why Our Harnesses Are Different

Understanding IVDD and Why Our Harnesses Are Different

Understanding IVDD

Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) is common in dachshunds because of their long spine and short ribs.

Sudden twisting or pressure from a collar can strain the neck and back, leading to pain or even paralysis.

A supportive, low-pull harness helps prevent those risks.

What to look for

  • Even weight distribution across the chest, not the throat

  • Soft, breathable fabric (neoprene is ideal)

  • Adjustability at both neck and chest

  • No step-over contortions — easy on/off for sore spines

Lazy Doxie Co’s Harness

Every Lazy Doxie Co harness ticks those boxes. Our long-body design keeps the leash clip centred, reducing spinal torque and pressure points.

They’re vet-approved, easy to wash, and cute enough for café dates.

Gentle exercise tips

  • Keep walks short and steady.

  • Use ramps instead of jumping.

  • Support your doxie’s chest and back when lifting.

Remember: prevention beats cure every time.
